About

Black Fuego Press is what happens when a writer stops asking permission.

We started because the industry had already decided what Black writers were allowed to sound like, what genres we were supposed to stay inside, what stories would sell and which ones wouldn’t. We disagreed. So we built a press where the only question that matters is whether the work is true.

A literary novelist and an urban fiction writer can live on the same list here. A sci-fi writer and a social critic can share a shelf. A woman writing about Mississippi in 1962 and a woman writing about a Harlem atelier in 2026 are both doing the same job: telling the truth at full volume, in the voice it came to them in.

That’s the energy. Writers finding out who they actually are on the page, instead of who the market told them to be.
